Is it possible to remove bad Microblading or Permanent Makeup?

We receive many desperate phone calls from people who have had their eyebrows microbladed elsewhere to see if we can correct them. Having something on your face that you feel very unhappy with is really tough. It is not unusual to be in chock or even hate your new microblading the first few days as they appear very dark, bold and intense when the pigment reacts with the air and oxidizes. Even with good workmanship they can look very dark and thick at this point, and you often cannot see the hairstrokes as the pigment on top swells and looks solid. They can even look slightly uneven for the first week since some areas may have more redness or oxidation than other areas. During the healing period they lighten up and typically shrink, and the hairstrokes appear again.

However, sometimes the actual workmanship is poor. As Microblading and Permanent Makeup has become extremely popular over the last few years the number of unqualified and unskilled technicians have exploded. A few weeks ago we got a call from a lady who bought a Groupon Microblading special for a few hundred dollars. Her eyebrows healed blue, uneven and the shape completely off.  The shape was so far away from her own eyebrow hair that she had four eyebrows! What do you do in this case? Is there a way to fix horrible microblading?

Fortunately, there are some options available. Our Removal and Corrections specialist Delphine offers three types of lightening and removal solutions to lighten and lift the pigment, and they can be used to remove pigment even on the eyes and lips!

  1. LIFT Saline Remover
  2. Enzyme Power by PhiBrows
  3. Glycolic Acid Remover by PhiBrows

First of all it is important to let the area heal before attempting removal, otherwise you run the risk of injuring the skin and end up with unnecessary scarring. You need to wait at least 4-6 weeks. Elderly clients with thinner and more fragile skin may need to wait even a little longer.

So what are the steps?

Consultation: This step is very important as we need to evaluate your case in person. We explain what to expect during the treatment and answer any questions.

Treatment Plan: Based on the consultation evaluation we will create a tailored treatment plan, and recommend which type of removal solution to use.

Removal: The removal is done with numbing if you prefer, and the process is similar to how the actual microblading/permanent makeup is done. The difference is that instead of pigment, a removal solution is applied that gradually removes the pigment.

Depending on the depth and color of the pigment multiple sessions may be needed. If the pigment is very dark and saturated the process may take longer. Sometimes it takes several sessions to start seeing notable results. The good news is that you don’t have to do laser, which many people are scared of since it may affect the hair color and growth.
